Yesterday, I stared at my untouched task list and felt the weight in my chest tighten.
I'd devoured every productivity framework, yet the cursor still mocked me.
Another evening slipping away was a punch-to-the-gut reminder that "discipline" wasn't the enemy; my head was.
So, I rewired ChatGPT to act like a detective and expose the real crime scene within my habits. |

The Science Behind Delay |
Fear of being judged is rocket fuel for delay. A 691-study meta-analysis shows that harsh self-evaluation, more than laziness, drives chronic postponement. Emotional regulation troubles add fuel, according to a 2025 Nature report linking unstable mood control to higher academic delays. Translation: if feelings spin out, tasks stall. |
Trace Your Pattern |
Run the detective prompt and answer every probe in blunt sentences. What time of day do you drift? Which projects trigger the stomach knot? How does your inner voice sound at that moment? Write it down. Patterns emerge quickly when the answers are presented side by side. |
Build Frictionless Ramps |
Once the pattern is clear, layer in "implementation intentions." Research shows that pairing a cue with a micro-commitment ("After coffee, I'll draft one paragraph") significantly reduces the delay time.
The rule is simple: shrink the entry point until resistance feels silly, then step forward before doubt can speak. |

The Prompt In Plain English |
|
Copy-paste this:
"You are my procrastination detective. Ask sharp questions to reveal why I sidestep certain tasks-fear of failure, overwhelm, burnout, perfectionism. Map what I dodge, when it happens, and the self-talk running in the background. Then design specific, realistic strategies drawn from those answers. Be straight, be kind."
