Women Of The
Sea Film Fund
|
|
In partnership with London Surf / Film Festival, we're celebrating International Women's Day with the return of our filmmaker competition, celebrating the bravery and fortitude shown by women of the sea.
Open to all women filmmakers, we invite you to submit a pitch that champions women making waves and taking their space in the lineup. The winning entry will receive a £10,000 grant to help make their project, and the final film will be premiered at LS/FF 2025.

In 2023, Leah Rustomjee was the winner and recipient of our first Finisterre International Women's Day Film Grant. Winner of the Peoples Choice Award at that year's London Surf / Film Festival, her heartwarming film about a group of over 50s women who have taken to the waves shows that there is no age limit to enjoying the ocean.

Throughout the month we'll be sharing incredible waves from the women charging in our community. First up, watch Finisterre Ambassador Katie McConnell drop in on one of the biggest waves ridden by a woman at this spot on the west coast of Ireland.

|
In celebration of International Women's Day we spoke with two female filmmaking powerhouses.
Lucy Small is a surfer, journalist and activist fighting for equal pay and representation for women in competitive surfing, and Maddie Meddings is a longtime friend of Finisterre, a mainstay of our shoot crews and part of a fresh crop of talented female filmmakers. We sat down with the pair to discuss the realities of the industry and discuss their latest collaborative film project, "Ciebo".
