Hi traveler,
Where were you when the $196 mistake fare to Japan hit? Okay, it was just yesterday, but allow us to reminisce. If you missed it, or even if you saw it and are just wondering how the heck it all came together so beautifully, we'll give you the story.
Ren runs social at Going and is one of our flight experts. Sunday was obviously her day off, but around 6:30am she checked fares anyway, and one didn't look quite right: Japan on Alaska and Hawaiian for $196 roundtrip from Seattle and Los Angeles, and less than $470 from New York, Chicago, Denver, Phoenix, and San Diego.
We know a mistake fare when we see one. For anyone who doesn't know, it's when the airline publishes a price it never meant to, and it's usually gone within hours. Ren checked the dates, confirmed it booked directly with the airline, and had it out to Premium and Elite members by email and on social within the hour. Not long after, the airline pulled it.
The members who moved fast (and had our app and push notifications turned on) made it. A few wrote to us:
"Japan has been on our list for years and we've wanted to go in January, so the second the Going mistake fare hit, we booked. Scored two tickets roundtrip with bags and seat selections for just under $1k total!" -Lauren M.
"I woke up to a mistake fare from Seattle to Japan, and while I was a couple hours late to the party, I was able to find a $250 RT ticket to Osaka, and jumped on it immediately!" -Braden P.
"Ren was amazing. They helped me personally via IG DM to find the mistake fare to Osaka for $250 RT when I thought the Tokyo one was fixed." -Justine E.
This is our favorite part of the job: catching deals like this and helping members lock in the trip of a lifetime (even on our day off).
Premium and Elite members get the alert first. Everyone else finds out after the seats are gone. If you want to be on the list for the next one, Premium and Elite are 30% off through November 4.
