Being outside is one of the most reliable ways I know to regulate my nervous system. Getting sunlight, walking barefoot in the grass, jumping into a body of water, breathing in a mountain view-these things have a way of getting me out of my head and back into my body. There is also something very freeing about being reminded how small we are, and how temporary our problems can feel. In this week's story, board-certified internist John La Puma, MD, explains why time in nature can be so restorative, from the way morning light supports sleep to the very real benefits of touching grass.
