Hi there -
A Guatemalan coffee classic: if you've never tried this one, it's about time! This is our 10th year featuring this Antiguan coffee from our friends at Kuma, and I loved it from the very first sip. This light-medium roast has a rich, smooth body, natural sweetness, and just enough fruity flavor to elevate without overwhelm. And it's currently available for a limited time! Does it get any better??
Tastes Like: Fruit Punch, Oranges, Dark Chocolate, Honeycomb
Curator's Notes: Antigua, the region where this coffee was grown, is a very special place in Guatemala. I was lucky enough to visit Antigua just a few weeks ago when I was in Guatemala for the Cup of Excellence. Hunapu is the Mayan name for the Agua volcano that overlooks the city, and you can see it in this coffee's background photo - taken from my iphone, in fact! Mayan influence in this former Guatemalan capital city is strong, and this microlot is a blend from multiple indigenous producers whose coffee plants thrive in the high altitude and rich volcanic soils. Red Bourbon is a classic Guatemalan coffee varietal, known for its high levels of sweetness and hefty, honeyed mouthfeel. I really love the soft, citrus acidity in this coffee and its round, smooth, melted-chocolate profile. Kuma's light-medium roast profile really makes this coffee sing, and it's so versatile, enjoyable and easy to drink hot or cold, with any brew method you like. This is the 10th year (!!!) we've carried this fantastic, directly-sourced coffee of theirs, and hey: classics are classics for a reason! Kuma's microlots tend to sell out very quickly, so add this one to your morning rotation while you still can. And visit Antigua yourself if you ever get the chance - it's a truly beautiful spot in the world. This coffee? The next best thing.
Bottom Line: You'll love this coffee if you love those chocolate oranges at Christmastime, classic Guatemalan coffees, or easy-drinking breakfast blends.
