Curator's Notes: OK, so before I even tried this coffee, I already knew how outstanding it was going to be: I recognized the producer's name, Duberney Cifuentes Fajardo, because he won 2023's Colombian Cup of Excellence - and with a washed gesha just like this one! My expectations were very high, and let me just say, this coffee still blew me away. There's just nothing like a beautiful washed Gesha, it's so classic, distinctive and recognizable in the cup, like wrapping yourself up in your favorite cashmere sweater. I've always thought of Gesha coffees like cashmere sweaters of the specialty coffee world - they're ultra soft, delicately sweet, and they've been synonymous with coffee luxury ever since they were discovered two decades ago. But let me try to describe what I'm getting from this coffee. When you're brewing it, you'll smell white flowers, dried fruit, and a creamy, vanilla-toned sweetness. Flavors begin with a bright, clean, sparkly acidity, which might remind you of a lemon curd pastry, or biting into a fresh green apple. You'll taste some florals, green tea and chamomile, with more of that dried fruit - fig, tamarind, green apple, some green grape, all underneath a soft, lush body of buttery vanilla. The finish is long, super sweet, leaving the aftertaste of vanilla butter caramel and sweet tea lingering on your tongue. As it cools, you'll taste more of that sweet tea, apple butter and a hint of cinnamon spice. One sip, and it's easy to understand why washed Geshas are some of the most sought-after coffees in the world - a true unicorn of coffee!
