LUME is carved from natural Spanish alabaster and lit from within. The stone is cut thin enough for light to pass straight through it, so what you see when it comes on is the veining inside the block.

The material

No two are the same

Every piece is cut from a different block, so the amber seams and clouded whites fall differently each time. Yours will not look quite like the one in this photograph, and that is rather the point.

The fluted face is carved, not moulded. Switched off it reads as a quiet piece of stone. Switched on, the ridges catch the light and the whole wall softens.

Where it belongs

A light you notice last

Hallways. In pairs, facing each other, so the walk in feels considered rather than lit.

Bedsides. Mounted either side of the headboard, freeing the table and softening the room at night.

Beside a mirror. Warm light across the face, which a downlight has never once managed.

Dining rooms. On the long wall, doing the work the overhead light cannot.
