Why Mum is the big word at Nirvana Brewery

Hi Nirvana followers,

When I started Nirvana Brewery almost 9 years ago, it was born out of a drive to create a great tasting alcohol-free beer for my dad who gave up drinking. But it was my mum, Sue Kean, who was the real driving force behind the business. So as Mother's Day approaches, I wanted to take a moment to honour the amazing Mother behind the business that is Nirvana Brewery.

Nirvana started as a family business, with me and my brother Joe travelling around Germany looking for great tasting AF beers, before finally setting up tank in our brewhouse in East London. And in those early years of our alcohol-free adventure it was our mum, Sue, who was Nirvana's main investor, business mentor and all-round Nirvana cheerleader. Without her backing and encouragement Nirvana would not exist today, and the alcohol-free brewing scene in the UK would not be the same without Nirvana's early pioneering!

Sadly we lost our mum in 2021. And inevitably Nirvana has grown and changed since those early days and is run by more than just family now, with a whole team of brilliant people making Nirvana what it is today. But Sue's kindness and ethical approach to business lives on in the values we uphold every day; influencing everything from how we work together as a team, treat our staff, customers and stakeholders, to our honesty as a brand and commitment to brewing the best tasting AF beers.

Mother's day is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate those mother figures in our lives, whether past or present. So here at Nirvana we raise a glass to this particular mother, and to all mums this coming Mothering Sunday.
