You wouldn't buy running shoes designed 100 years ago.
Even if they were hand-crafted and used the finest materials.
We expect modern trainers to use today's technology to push comfort, durability and performance.
But when it comes to mattresses, we're often asked to accept a strange trade-off.
Traditional mattresses built on century-old designs using luxury materials.
Or...
Modern mattresses that have the latest materials, but sacrifice durability.
We don't think that choice makes sense. We believe you can have your cake and eat it too.
The way we see it, it that the mattress world is effectively split in two: heritage and modern.
Heritage brands focus on traditional craftsmanship, natural materials, and time-honoured techniques.
Their mattresses are beautifully made and often proudly built to recipes that have remained largely unchanged for decades, sometimes even centuries.
That longevity is impressive.
But it can also be limiting.
What we understand about sleep has moved on.
Materials have improved.
Mattresses designed around 100-year-old principles often miss out on the latest advances in sleep and material science.
Modern mattress brands take a different approach.
They lean heavily on modern foams but use simplified construction to reduce costs.
Traditional luxury materials like wool or cashmere are frequently replaced, and handcrafting is stripped back.
These mattresses can feel comfortable at first, but basic construction and lower-quality materials tend not to perform well over time.
At Owl + Lark, we didn't see why this had to be a choice.
Our mattresses are hybrid in the truest sense of the word.
We combine heritage construction techniques designed for long-lasting comfort and stability with modern spring systems, advanced foams, and luxurious natural materials including wool, cashmere, and mulberry silk.
The result is mattresses that feel indulgent, but are designed for real sleep performance.
Beautifully engineered mattresses that are truly the best of both worlds.
