Hi there
Last week's issue on the language of thought really seemed to strike a chord. Several subscribers wrote to tell me how surprised they were that such a simple shift in style could be so powerful.
In fact, simplicity itself is often both misunderstood and underrated.
We tend to think that complex topics need complex documents. And the more important the topic, the more complex we think our writing needs to be - especially when the stakes are high.
Writing to the board? Better stretch it to a ten-pager then. They'll be expecting it and it will make us look like we know what we're talking about.
Yet many of the problems we tackle at work are complex enough without burying them in a fog of words.
Deep down, of course, we know that. So why do we still do it?
Find out (and what to do about it) in this week's Writing Matters.
