I recently got a walking pad and it has been helping me catch 2 birds with one net.
I pop on there, the blood gets moving, and I think of / create content!
Sometimes creating content is a serious hassle- at least the social media kind.
- It's time consuming
- Thinking of ideas can be tough
- You've gotta have the right energy
This is where Habit Stacking comes into play!
Creating content is not already a habit.
It's something I need to force into my day. Some days it's easy- some days it REAL tough.
BUT!
I already have my walking habit.
That is not something I need to force into my day and since walking isn't that hard- I can pretty easily open up my camera and record some stuff.
Thus stacking a new habit onto an existing one.
Odds are you have some existing habits.
Even if you don't think of them as "habits" there's stuff you do every day.
- Drink coffee
- Eat breakfast
- Read the news
- Brush your teeth (I hope)
- Watch tv?
Also! Odds are you could benefit form habits you do not yet have.
Ones that would benefit fitness + nutrition goals?
Some common ones my clients typically benefit from are...
- Tracking / weighing food
- Increasing steps
- Drinking more water
- Cooking more
Let's see if we can stack 2 of these new habits on the existing ones.
- Water + Coffee
We need to drink coffee right? Well we also need to drink water. A good way to stack these together→ You do not get any coffee until you finish a glass of water. (This is what I do everyday)
I'm going to drink my coffee no matter what- but before I can, I have to finish 12 ounces of water. Super simple and it gives my coffee some time to cool down.
- Cooking More + Watching TV
I understand that cooking can be a pain in the butt. After a day of work we all want to chill-ax. But that doesn't mean our nutrition goals go away!
Here's the deal. Cooking meals really only take 10 minutes of active attention. Chopping, Boiling, Adding, Stirring. Besides that you can do whatever you want!
Got a laptop?
Watch your show on your laptop while you're in the kitchen! (Just be careful when you're chopping veggies!)
I do this all the time. It makes cooking more fun and when I don't need to be active in the kitchen I take my laptop and sit on the couch with my dogs- Win Win Win 👍🏼
There we have it- Habit Stacking in a nutshell.
Hopefully you found this useful!
Now get to stacking habits 💪🏼
