I have discussed the power of Habit Stacking before- But I've recently taken it to a new level.
Living on the road in a fairly small camper with very minimal workout equipment isn't great for my gains.
I'll be honest, I don't feel super motivated to workout in some of the locations we've stayed at.
Plus when I do workout it's not what I would call... hard.
And depending on what the plans are that day / the weather, it might not even be possible for me to workout.
But I still want to maintain strength / muscle as much as I can and improve at things I wouldn't normally focus on.
And the other morning I was compelled by the power of Thor...
I woke up and started the coffee and all that.
Normally I ALWAYS drink a glass of water before having any coffee.
That is the Habit I have Stacked.
Water must be consumed before coffee.
Now I have stacked another habit on top...
Along with drinking water before coffee- I do 100 push-ups. (Not all at once)
It's one of the few exercises I can do in our 2.5 x 7 foot section of space in our "kitchen".
It's a very simple, yet useful, habit that I just threw on top of my already existing habits.
And now it's just something I do everyday.
Push-ups are one of the exercises I wanted to get seriously good at on our trip. (Because it's one of the best body weight upper body exercises- the best without any equipment)
And now I have a habit that will help me achieve my goals that I do every single day!
So the Quest I have for you today / this week is to...
- Identify a goal / something you want to work on.
Want to get better at push-ups?
Drink more water??
Get better mobility???
- Pin point a habit you do every day.
Drink coffee
Brush teeth
Shower
- Choose something that will lead towards your goal and do it before that other habit.
Ex.
- Want to get better at push-ups or just generally a little stronger??
Do what I'm doing!
Before you get to drink any coffee...
→ Perform X amount of reps of X exercises (push-ups, squats, lunges)
Note: It does not have to be 100 reps
Or replace exercises with a super quick mobility routine.
- Want to do a better job at planning meals?
Sit down on the toilet for 5 minutes before brush your teeth and write on your phone a couple meals you plan to have.
Pro Tip: Do this the night before when you aren't in a rush.
Honestly possibilities are endless.
Along with my push-ups I've also added a little bit of mobility / breathing exercises because it's so easy to do them with my existing routine!
Now get to it!
