*Note: The "Charisma" stat is about confidence / energy / how you feel about yourself.
Aka- Mental health!
A couple days ago I was at a fitness conference I go to every year with some coworkers.
And like every conference there are booths with things for people to try and buy.
Well we found a booth with an Inbody scanner. (A funky machine that gives you a butt load of data about your body)
We got scanned of course and all walked away with our stats- Including...
- Total body weight
- Total weight from skeletal muscle
- Total weight from body fat
- Body fat percentage
Etc.
And it was sooooooo cool!
Getting all that info was really interesting and, not to brag, but all of us had pretty good results that we were happy with...
For a little bit.
At least 2 of us are perhaps struggling a bit with not getting perfect results.
Even just thinking about it to write this email I'm getting slightly frustrated.
I've been working out to improve my body for over 15 years.
And the desire to improve has never gone away.
Even if I build more muscle, get stronger, or become more fit in some way- I still want to improve.
And so after getting those numbers from the Inbody scan- even though they are technically good, I want to make them better.
To the point that I brought the piece of paper with my numbers on it to my last workout. (To help motivate me to train harder)
I recognize that this isn't the healthiest mindset.
Technically I'm pretty much in the best shape I've ever been in.
But now I just have those numbers I want to improve stuck in my head...
And that completely negates AAAALLLLLLL of the progress I've made and should be proud of.
And I know I'm not alone in this way of thinking...
"Even though I've improved, I'm not where I want to be."
"I'm doing okay but I could do better."
"*insert name* is X so I should be X."
This goes beyond just fitness.
- Business
- Relationships
- Life
Can all fall into this trap of only looking forward to what we could have or where we could be.
And then we forget to look backwards at where we used to be and how far we've come.
We forget to feel pride in our accomplishments and only focus on what we have yet to accomplish.
And that kinda sucks doesn't it!
So our Charisma Quest this week is to...
Look back at where you've been and think of all the accomplishments you've made.
- Have you tried something you were nervous about?
- Have you done something you never thought you'd be able to?
- Have you made progress towards a goal?
Even if you're not exactly where you want to be- I bet that you've done a lot over the years that deserves some pride.
I like wanting to continue to improve. I think it's great to have goals of getting better in some way shape or form.
But we can't forget to acknowledge the stuff we've already done.
Even if the journey isn't over- Every small step forward is something to be proud of.
