If you're changing your nutrition by going on a diet- You're doing it wrong.
Props to you for trying to make a change!
But let's talk about making the change in a different way.
The issue with "diets" is that you go from 100 to 0 on just willpower alone.
Longterm- if you keep this diet forever you'll be totally fine!
But most people who go on diets do it for the short-term.
Have you ever heard of The Whole 30?
This diet has you eliminate certain foods for 30 days.
By the end of those 30 days people who follow the diet...
- Feel better
- Have lost weight
- Have more energy
Also by the end of those 30 days people...
- Eat all the foods they've restricted for the past month
- Gain back any weight they lost
- Repeat the process next time there's a special event- like a vacation or New Years
Now I don't want to say everyone falls into this cycle.
BUT!
I have literally heard multiple people say, "I can't wait to be done with Whole 30 so I can binge XYZ."
And that's just one example.
People do the same thing with 75 Hard, or other diets like Keto.
Or what about "Dry January" not necessarily a diet but it's a timeline based restriction.
These diets aren't bad they just aren't that useful- Unless you maintain them forever.
Because as soon as the restriction is lifted we go back to our old habits.
You do not have to follow any specific diet to get really good results.
You do have to eat within your calorie range, have decent macros, and it's always a good idea to eat fruits and veggies.
But you can do all of that while eating foods you love.
It just takes a little bit of practice and education.
The best place to start is figuring out where you are now.
For example- If I don't have any idea on how many grams of protein I eat, and I decide I need to eat more, I could accidentally go from 30-50 grams per day to 150-180 grams per day.
Is that bad?
Well my stomach probably wouldn't feel too good 😅
Or maybe some days I eat exactly what I should but other days are a little all over the place.
I wouldn't really need to change anything- I would just need to work on consistency.
We can't know what direction to go - Unless we know where we are.
So if you've been wanting to level up your results and or your nutrition- I challenge you to track your food!
You don't need to use an app. (But it does help)
You don't even need to track an entire day!
Just track meals.
Do you have the same breakfast everyday?
Figure out how many servings you eat and how many calories + grams of protein are in that meal.
