It was our second or third day in New Zealand.
We were staying on Waiheke Island for a couple nights to relax after the crazy amount of travel it took to get there.
If you don't know anything about Waiheke- there are a lot of beaches.
We obviously wanted to hang by the beach for a bit and go for a swim- Which we did in surprisingly warm water!
I don't normally like beaches all that much. I don't sit still very long and the water is typically too cold to hang out in.
But not this time!!
I was having a blast in the ocean- I even got to catch a few good body surfs.
The only issue was that this beach was shallow for quite a ways and kinda rocky.
I was playing in the water for quite some time- And you know how after hanging out in the water a while your skin gets bit softer?
That happened to me, at least my feet, and while I was jumping around in the water like a little kid- My toe hit a rock kinda hard.
It hurt, but not bad so I paid not attention to it.
Finally I got out of the water to rejoin my wife lying on the beach and by the time I got to her I felt a stinging sensation on my toe.
I looked down to see...
A bunch of sand sticking to me of course!
But on my right big toe the sand looked a bit odd and upon further inspection I discovered I had split it open.
After a quick panic of "Did I just ruin our trip on the third day?!" I rinsed it out and realized it wasn't too bad and I definitely didn't need stitches or anything.
BUT!
It was pretty hard to walk.
Putting pressure on my big toe was pretty painful and if you've ever walked before you may have noticed- you push off your toes.
So every-other step was either quite painful or cut short.
Not a big deal honestly.
Unless you're in a place where you plan to do a lot of outdoor activities...
Anyways!
That's enough meandering around the point of this story.
My toe hurt and it limited my movement capability.
We did a tiny hike the following day and were exploring some rocks by the ocean.
Normally I feel right at home jumping around on the rocks and exploring where others can't or are too nervous to.
But I couldn't do that this time.
Every time I miss-stepped was like stabbing a nerve in my toe.
It really frustrated me because I LOVE exploring rocky areas and here I was in a very cool location I will probably never be in again- feeling limited.
Even now, thinking about it, my chest is starting to burn with anger at the thought of being in an amazing location unable to explore.
Physically unable to explore.
This was just from a small, dumb injury- And I don't want to be insensitive to those with real injuries or conditions that limit their physical capability.
*Knock on wood
That is not the case for most people.
But many of us still have limited physical capability or LPC.
LPC decreases our ability to experience life / lowers the amount of experiences we can have.
I don't want to force goals upon you that you don't truly have.
But I do not want to have limited physical capability because I want to have the option to experience really cool things.
And I want you to have that option as well.
And that's why we should workout.
The looks are great.
The health benefits are great.
But Increased Physical Capability is a Life Enhancer.
And that's it for today!
I'll talk to you next time!
Best,
Ryan Sandmann
