THE EDINBURGH EDIT

It might look sweet, charming - picture-perfect, even. But Edinburgh isn't all cute. It does gothic spires and moody skies . To weather this particular storm (even in summer - we're not naïve), you'll need something heritage, something hardy and something with attitude.

ON THE MILE

You're on cobbles. It's blustery. This is not the street for floaty skirts and halter tops. You need layers. Textures. Edge. A striped shirt under a wool blazer works. So does a good boot. Turn the look a bit dark academia with deep blues and greens. Then, throw on a navy knit for when it inevitably turns cool.

AT THE COFFEE SHOP

So, the weather has taken a turn. You find shelter with a flat white (no foam art, please). Slouched at the window, you've got something woollen draped over you. You sip. You read. You pretend not to eavesdrop.

UP ARTHUR'S SEAT

For an afternoon, you leave the city behind. The walk's a bit steep. Your hair's a bit ruffled, but you don't mind that because your outfit's somehow perfect for a stroll up a dormant volcano. (And you packed an extra sandwich.)
