There is a particular stillness in the days between Christmas and the New Year.
Time loosens. Observation sharpens.
The past week was spent in the UK with my family, then back to Mallorca, walking the island as light returned slowly to familiar paths. It is often in these quieter transitions that clothing reveals its purpose. Not for occasion, but for continuity. Plaid has surfaced repeatedly this season. Not loudly. Simply, consistently.
It is a pattern that carries history without nostalgia. I have always been drawn to its discipline. The Scottish kilt holds structure and symbolism in equal measure. A system of lines that protects, signals belonging, and endures wear.
I noticed something meaningful over the past weeks. Women wore their Yaitte pieces as part of their daily rhythm, not as seasonal markers. Lisa Ing, Alessandra Steinherr, and Heather Summers each integrated plaid into their wardrobes with ease, allowing the pattern to support their personal lines rather than define them. That is always the intention.
