Claude just stopped borrowing your browser. Anthropic gave its Cowork assistant a built-in Chromium browser that runs inside the desktop app, so it can open pages, click buttons, and fill out forms without ever touching your Chrome tabs, bookmarks, or passwords. |

Anthropic rolled out a built-in browser inside Claude Cowork, letting the AI assistant open pages, click through sites, and fill out forms entirely inside the desktop app - no more relying on a Chrome extension to get things done on the web. The browser runs separately from your personal one: Claude can't see your tabs, bookmarks, or saved passwords unless you choose to import specific logins. |
What matters? |
Automatic activation. The browser opens on its own whenever Claude decides a task needs live information from the web, with no manual setup required. Bring your own logins. Users can optionally import saved credentials from Chrome, Edge, or Firefox so Claude can access sites it would otherwise be locked out of. Broad rollout. The feature reached Pro, Max, and Team subscribers on Mac, Windows, and Linux (beta) the week of August 26, with Enterprise admins managing access org-wide. |
Why it matters? |
Every major AI lab is racing to make its assistant act on the web instead of just talking about it, and a dedicated browser removes the friction of installing extensions or granting broad account access. It also raises the stakes on prompt-injection defenses, since a browser that clicks and types on your behalf is a browser that can be tricked into doing the wrong thing. |

What's new? OpenAI published its first independent benchmarks for Jalapeño, the custom inference chip it built with Broadcom, claiming it beats Nvidia's Blackwell GPUs on both efficiency and speed. It's OpenAI's clearest signal yet that it wants to depend less on outside chipmakers to run its models. |
What matters? |
Efficiency edge. Jalapeño delivers 1.5 to 1.9 times more AI work per watt than Nvidia's Blackwell chips, according to OpenAI's own testing. Speed advantage. The chip also cuts response latency by 1.7 to 3.6 times in low-latency, high-throughput scenarios. Still buying Nvidia. OpenAI plans to start deploying Jalapeño by the end of the year but says it will keep using Nvidia and other outside chips as computational demands keep climbing. |
Why it matters? |
A chip built specifically to answer questions faster and cheaper could meaningfully lower the cost of running ChatGPT at scale, savings that eventually reach every product built on OpenAI's models. It's also a warning shot for Nvidia, which just posted record earnings on the very demand OpenAI is now trying to serve with its own silicon. |

A humanoid robot named Tiangong Ultra ran the 100 meters in 8.86 seconds at the World Humanoid Robot Games in Beijing, more than seven-tenths of a second faster than Usain Bolt's 9.58-second human world record set in 2009. It's the same robot's second sprint record of the week, after clocking 9.39 seconds just days earlier. |

A fast-improving field. Tiangong won last year's inaugural games with a 21.50-second 100m - this year's winning time is more than twice as fast. Records beyond the sprint. Tiangong also set new marks in the 400 meters (38.15 seconds) and the high jump (2.88 meters) during the same games. Not flawless. Several competing robots collapsed at the starting line or needed human assistance, and Tiangong itself caught a small fire in its torso after a hard stop past the finish line. |
Why it matters? |
Robots outrunning the fastest human alive is a viral moment, but the bigger story is the pace of improvement - more than doubling last year's winning time in a single season. That kind of curve is exactly what turns a novelty competition into a real testbed for factory and disaster-response robotics. |
