Black Forest Labs just dropped FLUX 3, and it's not another image generator - it's one model that handles images, video with audio, and even robot actions. The team behind FLUX built its reputation on stills; now it's betting the future of AI creativity is multimodal by default. |
That's a very different bet than the specialized tools most creators use today, where video, audio, and images each need a separate app. If FLUX 3 holds up outside the demo clips, does stitching together five different AI tools for one project start to look outdated? |

What's new? Black Forest Labs launched FLUX 3 in early access, a multimodal model trained jointly on images, video, and audio - plus a companion system that predicts robot actions from the same underlying architecture. |
What matters? |
Developers can request early access to FLUX 3 Video today, with an open-weight FLUX 3 Dev version planned to follow.
FLUX 3 Video generates clips up to 20 seconds with native audio, meaning dialogue, sound effects, and picture all come out of a single generation.
The model also handles image-to-video animation, video-to-video edits, and multilingual dialogue, with early evaluations showing it preferred over competitors in up to 93% of comparisons.
|
Why it matters? |
One model doing images, video, audio, and physical actions is a real departure from AI art tools that each handle a single medium. If FLUX 3 delivers outside the demo reel, it becomes a serious alternative to piecing together separate video, audio, and image generators. |

What's new? Midjourney acquired social astrology app Co-Star, according to Bloomberg - a deal that gives the company its first real shot at a standalone consumer app outside of Discord. |
What matters? |
Co-Star brings roughly 4.3 million monthly active users and a team of about 24 employees with consumer-app experience Midjourney has never had in-house.
Midjourney has operated almost entirely through Discord since launch, despite becoming one of the most recognizable names in AI image generation.
The deal fits a broader pattern of Midjourney expanding into medical, spa, and now astrology apps as it looks beyond its original image-generation tool.
|
Why it matters? |
A standalone Midjourney app has been the most obvious gap in the company's strategy for years. Buying a team that already knows how to build and retain a consumer audience is a faster path there than building one from scratch. |

What's new? The EU AI Act's Article 50 transparency rules took effect on August 2, requiring AI-generated images, video, and audio to carry machine-readable markers identifying them as artificially created. |
What matters? |
Generative AI providers must mark outputs so they're detectable as AI-generated, using a mix of watermarks, metadata, or cryptographic provenance methods - no single technique counts as sufficient alone.
Disclosures have to be clear and accessible at first interaction; buried disclaimers or faint labels don't meet the bar.
Non-compliance risks fines up to €15 million or 3% of global annual turnover, though systems already on the market get until December 2 to add machine-readable marking.
|
Why it matters? |
Every AI art and video tool with an EU audience now has to bake in disclosure, not bolt it on later. Expect the labeling requirement to start showing up inside the tools you already use well before the December deadline. |
