Meta just gave billions of Instagram and WhatsApp users a built-in AI image generator, no extra app required. Muse Image can blend photos, restore old snapshots, and render legible text - but it's already stirring debate over how it handles other people's faces. |
The rollout raises a real question for the creative AI space: how much consent should a platform need before letting anyone remix your face into a new image? Meanwhile, the money and the tools keep multiplying - from a fresh $2 billion valuation for a video startup to a Google Photos update anyone can try this week. |

What's new? Meta launched Muse Image, the first image generation model from its Superintelligence Labs team, rolling it out inside Meta AI, Instagram Stories, and WhatsApp. |
What matters? |
The model handles conversational photo editing - restoring old photos, blending multiple images, and rendering readable text - directly inside Meta's apps. Some users are pushing back after discovering Meta's policy lets others create AI content using their public Instagram photos without notifying them, according to TechCrunch. Basic image creation stays free, while expanded editing and generation tools sit behind a subscription tier. |
Why it matters? |
Muse Image puts a serious creative tool in front of billions of Instagram and WhatsApp users overnight, no download or sign-up required. The privacy debate over unconsented AI use of personal photos is likely to shadow the rollout as Meta expands access to more surfaces. |

What's new? PixVerse closed a $439 million funding extension, pushing the Singapore-based video generation startup's valuation above $2 billion. |
What matters? |
The round drew backers including Alibaba, Mirae Asset, and BlueFocus, alongside returning investors iGlobe Partners and OCBC's Lion X Ventures. PixVerse says it has 150 million registered users and roughly 15 million monthly active users across its consumer video tools. Co-founder Jaden Xie credits the company's data labeling approach - not just data volume - for its video-quality edge over rivals like Kling and Runway. |
Why it matters? |
A $2 billion valuation for a video-generation startup signals investors still see massive room to grow in AI video, even as the field gets crowded. With 150 million users already on the platform, PixVerse is betting scale - not just model quality - will decide who wins. |
