Your AI budget tripled. See real usage patterns with Harmonic. |
|
AI spend just became one of the biggest line items on the P&L. And most teams can't say what it's actually producing. |
Harmonic Security maps AI activity to the use cases and teams driving it, showing which tools are earning real productivity, which are shelfware, where sensitive data is going, and how adoption is trending over time. Across approved AND unapproved AI tools. |
That's the data you need to show your board exactly where the return is coming from. |

Good morning, AI enthusiast. Nvidia just made its boldest move yet to own more than the chips AI runs on. The company has reportedly agreed to pay $12.9 billion for Hugging Face, the open-source hub where most of the AI world's models live - nearly double what Hugging Face turned down from Nvidia only months ago. |
The deal would hand Nvidia real influence over the software layer, not just the silicon underneath it, right as OpenAI, Google, and Amazon race to build chips that need Nvidia less. Does owning the "GitHub of AI" keep that ecosystem open, or does it just move the chokepoint? |

What's new? Nvidia has agreed to buy Hugging Face for $12.9 billion, according to a report from The Information, a deal that would turn the reigning AI chipmaker into the owner of the open-source hub where most of the industry builds and shares models. |
What matters? |
Steep markup. Hugging Face turned down a $500 million Nvidia investment earlier this year that valued it at $7 billion - the new price is nearly double that, according to Reuters.
Open-source insurance. Hugging Face works like the "GitHub of AI," and owning it gives Nvidia leverage as OpenAI, Google, and Amazon build their own chips to cut ties with Nvidia hardware.
Founder buy-in. CEO Clem Delangue spent much of 2026 publicly championing Nvidia's open-source bets, including a recent appearance on CBS's "Face the Nation."
|
Why it matters? |
Buying the platform where most open models get built and shared hands Nvidia influence over which AI tools thrive, not just which chips run them. That kind of control over the software layer is a new front in a fight Nvidia has mostly won on hardware alone. |

What's new? Google released Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash, an upgraded video model that stitches shots into 40-second scenes and upscales output to 4K - the same update pushed Gemini to the top of Arena's text-to-image leaderboard. |
What matters? |
Scene stitching. The model reads up to 10 seconds of a prior clip and extends it in 10-second increments, up to 40 seconds total, to keep motion and characters consistent.
Keyframe control. Creators can set a starting and ending frame and let the model fill in the camera movement between them, including clean loop transitions.
Cheap drafts. Draft Mode generates 360p previews up to 60% faster and a third of the cost of full 720p, before upscaling the final cut to 1080p or 4K in Google AI Studio.
|
Why it matters? |
Cheap, fast previews let creators iterate on a shot a dozen times before paying for a final render - the kind of workflow that separates a hobbyist tool from a production one. Google is betting that control, not just visual quality, is what turns casual users into daily editors. |

What's new? The AI model known only as "Ox Alpha," which topped OpenRouter's usage rankings for weeks, turned out to be Z.ai's new GLM-5.3-Flash, a 320-billion-parameter model the Chinese lab released with open weights under an MIT license. |
What matters? |
Nearly free. According to Artificial Analysis, GLM-5.3-Flash scores 57 on the Intelligence Index at roughly $0.045 per task - about a tenth the cost of comparable frontier models.
Homegrown chips. Z.ai ran the model's free launch week entirely on Chinese-made chips, a sign the country is closing the gap on AI infrastructure that doesn't depend on Nvidia hardware.
Doubling up DeepSeek. Ox Alpha's usage on OpenRouter nearly doubled the second-place model, DeepSeek - proof developers will chase price and performance over brand name.
|
Why it matters? |
An open, MIT-licensed model that runs cheaply on domestic chips gives Chinese labs a credible alternative to buying Nvidia hardware at any price. That's a bigger threat to Nvidia's moat than any single benchmark score. |
